Elkhart is a vibrant city with nearly 52,000 residents living in some 16,000 residential units. It is located in North-Central Indiana, approximately 109 miles from Chicago, 134 miles from Indianapolis and 203 from Detroit. Despite the shared name, it is not the county seat of Elkhart County; that position is held by the city of Goshen, located about 10 miles southeast of Elkhart. According to the 2010 census, the city has a total area of 24.42 square miles and the population was 50,949 at the 2010 census.
