From birth to about age 8 (depending on the state you live in), your child will need to be in a car seat. There are always so many car seats to choose from and so little time. How do you choose which seat is perfect for you is the question. First things first, let's look at what each car seat type is made for.

- Infant Car Seats- An infant car seat is designed for infants. This is usually from birth until your baby is two years old, when they can be placed forward facing. The infant car seat can also double as a carrier. It also fits into most strollers made by the same company. Need a stroller? Check out the ability to buy a stroller with a car seat.
- Convertible Car Seats- Convertible car seats can be used from birth until your child outgrows a car seat. This means that you can get more use out of your investment. They can be used in forward facing or in rear facing positions, depending on the weight of your child. Only problem is, if your child is a premie, a convertible seat may not be the best idea considering the baby is smaller than a newborn.
- Booster Seats- Booster car seats are used only for toddlers in a forward facing position. The minimum weight requirement varies from 30-40 pounds, depending on the model you select. Most booster seats work up to 80 lbs.
